In 2005, the Missionary Sisters of the Precious Blood (CPS) founded KAMINHOS as a response to the devastating human and social impact of HIV/AIDS, poverty and years of civil conflict in Mozambique. Entire generations of children had lost their parents, their homes and their sense of belonging. Many faced hunger, illness and exclusion from education. As an international Catholic women’s congregation founded in 1885 by Trappist Abbot Francis Pfanner in Mariannhill, South Africa, the CPS Sisters dedicate their lives to the holistic education of children and youth, the strengthening of families and service to the most vulnerable - regardless of religion, background, or status.
“We could not close our eyes anymore. The children were hungry, barefoot and afraid - but what they lacked most was hope.”
Sr. Maria Paula CPS
Seeing this suffering, the Sisters opened the first Daycare Centres in Massaca,Tete and Namaacha in 2006, followed by Impaputo in 2007. KAMINHOS was born to restore that hope through safety, nutrition, education and psychosocial care. Today, more than 400 orphans and vulnerable children between 3 and 21 years (exceptionally above that age) find in our centres a place of protection, learning and guidance toward a future of dignity and independence. For over a decade, KAMINHOS has empowered over 1300 orphans, vulnerable children and youth in Mozambique to learn and thrive and build a better future - together with committed partners who believe in the potential of every child.
