The Luz Massaca II Daycare Centre is located on the outskirts of Boane municipality, about 35 - 40 km from Maputo Town. Massaca was formerly a resettlement area for families returning from South Africa and Eswatini after the civil war. Around the year 2000, the Missionary Sisters of the Precious Blood helped many of these families to build simple homes and restart their lives. The centre opened in March 2006 to provide protection, nutrition, and education to orphaned and vulnerable children in the area.
There are many faces of vulnerability due to superstition-related abandonment, poverty, lack of school resources, unemployment, alcoholism and limited economic opportunities.
Luz Massaca II supports 120 children and youth aged 3-21, offering meals, tutoring, emotional support, structured activities and a safe space to learn and grow.
